New Bow, new equipment! 12/14/23
Yes, that's right! No more High Country Archery Ascension XR!
So before I get to the new bow, I'll elaborate a little about the High Country:
First, I've never been very accurate with a shorter bow. And especially a short speed bow. I know the HCA Ascension XR isn't considered a short bow by today's standards. But it just wasn't for me.
I found over the months of shooting the HCA that I would shoot a 20 target 3D tournament and have 17 great shots, or at least they would be acceptable for my abilities, and I would have 3 shots that would be way over yonder somewhere and for the life of me I couldn't figure out why?
I ended up winning a couple tournaments with the HCA. But at the same time, it basically took me 6 months to reach the same level of accuracy I had with the Bowtech Fanatic 3.0.
Additionally, I fixed up the old Hoyt Provantage and I couldn't achieve the same scores for indoor practice rounds with the HCA that I could with a 30 something year old vintage Provantage!
High Country Archery was good to me while I was a Field Staff shooter. And some of the other members shot even shorter HCA bows with greater accuracy. The HCA Ascension XR is a super fast bow! Super tough! Built like a tank! Had the great feature of not needing a press to work on it and a wide draw length range, and a wide draw weight range as well, but it just wasn't shootable for me.
Now about this new bow!
It's a 2019 Prime Logic CT9.
39 inches axle to axle.
7 inch brace height.
50-60 pounds.
30-1/4 inch draw.
Accessories I'm using are:
CBE TH3 original made in Dudley, MA.
SRP 3D Customs Scope with 6X and 8X lenses.
Vapor Trail Limb Driver Pro Rest set up as cable driven instead of limb driven.
WCS L-96 21 inch front stabilizer and 10 inch rear stabilizer.
Specialty Archery peep with #2 or #3 clarifiers.
2413 Easton aluminum arrows for indoor.
Carbon Revolution Target Arrows for 3D.
I switch back and forth between the following releases:
Whalen's Hooker 3 finger.
B3 Hawk
Scott Ascent 3 finger.
Tru Ball Abyss 4 finger
I switch back and forth with all 4 of these releases so I don't get totally used to either one. It keeps me thinking and helps my form and execution. However, my main release of the 4 is my Tru Ball Abyss and it'll be my go-to release for tournaments.
So on November 20th I took delivery of the Prime. I realized the draw length was a little short and I changed out the cams a week later.
The last 5 Vegas practice rounds counting the center as an X I shot with the HCA averaged 280 points.
On December 4th I scored a 285 Vegas Practice round using the B3 Hawk release and shot a second Vegas Practice round that day using the Whalen's Hooker release and scored 281. So in 12 days with owning the Prime I achieved higher scores than I did with the HCA after shooting it 6 months or so.
As of today, 12-14-23, my last 5 Vegas round average with the Prime is a 285. My highest scoring Vegas round practice is 290.
I know those scores aren't really impressive but they are for me and my abilities! I have a long way to go in order to be competitive Indoor, but I've come a long way in just a couple weeks!
Here's my latest Vegas practice round and my latest NFAA 5 spot practice round:
